Give Us Men

Give us Men!
Men—from every rank,
Fresh and free and frank;
Men of thought and reading,
Men of light and leading,
Men of loyal leading, Men of loyal breeding,
The Nation’s welfare speeding:
Men of faith and not of faction,
Men of lofty aim and action;
Give us Men—I say again,
Give us Men.
Give us Men!
Strong and stalwart ones;
Men whom highest hop inspires,
Men whom purest honor fires,
Men who trample self beneath them,
Men who make their country wreathe them
As her noble sons,
Worthy of their sires;
Men who never shame their mothers,
Men who never fail their brothers,
True, however false are others:
Give us Men—I say again,
Give us Men.
Give us Men!
Men who, when the tempest gathers,
Grasp the standard of their fathers
In the thickest fight:
Men who strike for home and alter,
(Let the coward cringe and falter,)
God defend the right!
True as truth though lorn and lonely,
Tender—as the brave are only;
Men who tread where saints have trod,
Men for Country—Faith—and God:
Give us Men! I say again—again—
Give us such Men!

Lead humbly but confidently. Once you’ve prayed, done your homework,
and prepared, don’t second-guess your decision if you receive negative
feedback. Humble confidence means we’re open to questions but won’t
change course just because someone disagrees with us.

Lesson Learned

Lesson Learned:
Stop trying to learn a lesson from everything.

Once you live a good story, you get a taste for a kind of meaning in
life and you can’t go back to being normal; you can’t go back to
meaningless scenes stitched together by the forgettable thread of
wasted time.

Donald Miller
A Million Miles in a Thousand Years

Some people are small-pie people. They spend their whole lives convinced
there is only so much pie to go around. They sit down at the table and
start to fight over who gets what, worried someone else is getting more
than their share. They love boundaries and fence posts to protect their
territory. Big-pie people assume there’s lots for everybody. More than
enough. They’ve got an expanding pie. They trust anyone in the family to
divide up the pie. No need for fences when the field is bigger than
everyone could possibly need.

Busyness

Busyness is when you stop caring about what you care most about.

EntreLeadership Podcast: “Casting the Vision”

The Spirit of God came on Azariah son of Oded. He went out to meet Asa
and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The
Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be
found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.”

2 Chronicles 15:1-2

It turns out the droplet of our knowledge is a bit lost in the ocean of our
unknowing.

Donald Miller
Through Painted Deserts

It can be a terrifying place when you’ve gotten your thing and it
didn’t satisfy. I’ve said this before, but if you don’t practice
contentment where you’re at, you’re not going to be content when you
get what you want.

Tony Hale
(“Buster” from Arrested Development)

Generally speaking, when a man does something that a woman thinks is a
waste of time or is unproductive, he is in his cave.

Mars and Venus in Touch

Hahahahahaha. Another bout of laughter by wife and I when we read this
statement, too. How very true!
